The Summer School is open to young researchers (PhD students and Postdocs) worldwide. Participation is highly competitive and will be limited to a maximum of 70. The registration fee (1200 CHF) includes half board accommodation, excursion to Jungfraujoch and teaching material. A small number of grants will be available.

INQUA ECR Conference and Summer School (2016)

The Centre for Past Climate Change at University of Reading, UK, has bid to host the INQUA Early Career Researcher Conference and Summer School 2016. The conference theme will be “Using observations and modelling to understand past climate changes” and the event will include a mix of hands-on training in climate modelling/empirical techniques and oral and poster presentations from ECR delegates. CLIVAR-ICTP Workshop‬ on Decadal Climate Variability and Predictability: Challenge and Opportunity, 16-24.11.15, Trieste, Italy.

Monday 16 – Thursday 19 November – open attendance workshop:

  • Days 1-2 – Session 1 overview talks
  • Days 3-4 – Session 2 regional phenomena with ample time for discussions and poster sessions.
  • Day 4 – half a day to address Objective 3.
  • Each session to include 1 or 2 invited talks (35+5 min each) and presentations (15+5 min each). Each session will end with a questions and discussion led by the session conveners.

C-PEAT Launch and Integration Workshop‬

Peat Carbon Accumulation on Earth: An Integrated and Global Perspective workshop, 11-13 October 2015, New York.

This proposed workshop will, for the first time, bring together scientists interested in peats and peat carbon across the world from polar to tropical regions and through time from pre-Quaternary to the Holocene and recent centuries.  The overall goal of the workshop is to facilitate research coordination and the synthesis of knowledge and data on peat accumulation processes and histories on Earth.

Luminescence Dating Course – Aberystwyth University, UK

Luminescence Dating: Theory, Methods and Application, 9-13 November 2015, Aberystwyth University, UK.

This course provides practical training for participants wishing to design and undertake their own luminescence dating projects applied to archaeological and geological sedimentary deposits, and those who wish to have a better understanding of the method in order to be able to assess published data.

Course structure:

  • The principles of luminescence dating of sediments
  • Laboratory preparation of samples for luminescence measurement
  • Determining the environmental dose rate
  • Measurement and determination of equivalent dose
  • Determining a luminescence age
  • Field sampling Case studies and latest advances
