POST-CONGRESS WORKSHOP: FRIDAY 31 MAY 2024
LED BY DR SAUL MANZANO

The workshop aim is to provide a basic understanding of botany for Quaternary scientists who are not necessarily botanists by background. The workshop will entail a theoretical briefing on some of the least palatable, yet recurrent aspects of botany, such as why do plant names change all the time and how to deal with it, what is the difference between a plant list and a vegetation survey (and how to produce both of them) and what constitutes good botanical practice in Quaternary Science, and in general!. It will include a practical session including a small excursion to train participants in basic field techniques such as botanical collection and conducting a vegetation survey. Some tips and tricks for plant identifications of the main elements of the Cape flora will be discussed after the excursion in a final mini-ID session.

Participants are advised to bring a field notebook and a hand lens (10x recommended).

Registration for the workshop is closed, maximum capacity has been reached.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRESENTERS
